CITYSCENESMAG.COM INTERVIEW
Rushing home from school every day to watch MTV, by the 7th grade he began rapping and pursuing his career as a rap superstar. Winning talent shows in high school and rocking shows at school parties, Scotty soon became a known artist among his peers. With his sound fusing a southern jiffy cornbread, shrimp and grits brand of rap, Scotty has emerged as a truly multi-dimensional, gifted artiste. “I’m bringing real music back to the south, that summer time, let the top back music.” Open your ears, crank up your radio, and prepare yourself for “Scotty.”
I recently had the opportunity to interview Scotty. Here’s what he had to say.
Attica: This is Attica Lundy with City Scenes Magazine, on the rise. I’m here with Scotty from Block Entertainment. How are you doing?
Scotty: I’m doing Good! How are you?
Attica: I’m good.
Scotty: Aight.
Attica: Thank you for taking this call today.
Scotty: Oh yeah! No problem, my pleasure.
Attica: Now, I’ve seen the website, listened to the music. Love the music. I just got to ask you, when did you fall in love with rap?
Scotty: I fell in love with rap when I first saw Outcast “Southern Playalistic” video and DaBrat’s “Funkdafied”.
Attica: Ok.
Scotty: That’s when I first fell in love with rap, but I’ve been listening to rap for a long time. So, those were kind a like my inspirations and made me really, really want to do this.
Attica: Ok. So, those were some of your idols?
Scotty: Mmhm.
Attica: Is that when you first started writing also?
Scotty: Um, actually not. I started writing a couple of years after that and I use to listen to like Lil’ Wayne when he first came out. That’s when he was with hot boys- A lot of folks don’t really know about them, but that’s when I really started writing, like around that time.
Attica: How old were you then?
Scotty: I guess I was about fourteen.
Attica: Yeah?
Scotty: Well, like between twelve and Fourteen. That’s when I first started writing.
Attica: Now how did you find your way into the game? I know it’s hard trying to get your foot into the door. So, tell me about that. Just kind of get me into it. I know everybody does showcases, but how did you move over to the next level?
